One of the things that makes Alembika unique is that our sizing is a little more fluid.
What we mean by that is that it’s not rigid and can actually cover a range of sizes and accommodate various body shapes.

For example:

Alembika size 6 is equivalent to a full US size 16. Alembika size 7 can be either a US size 16/18 or 18/20, depending on the fabric and cut. Alembika size 8 corresponds to a US size 20/22.

Remember that a size 6 in one style might fit differently from a size 6 in another, so be sure to check the specific product's size chart as well as the fabric content.

You can also see how it falls on the model. Each Alembika product has a size chart to click on which looks like this:

You’ll notice that Alembika has 2 size ranges shown and there is a difference between the two.

The XS - XL styles are oversized in nature. They are more of an attitude than fit. For example, Alembika’s XS (US 6-8) in certain styles can also fit a shopper who is normally an American size 8-10.

It's important to look at the product photos on Alembika.com and see how it falls on the model. It may fit differently due to different materials and fabrics. Each fits slightly differently.

It’s important to note that if you find yourself in between two Alembika sizes (not guest designer sizes, more on that below), we generally recommend sizing down for a better fit. Our clothing is designed to be loose and flowing, and many customers discover that they prefer a slightly smaller size.

When to Size Up

Fabrics like 100% cotton and linen generally have little to no stretch, which means they don’t conform to your body as stretchy fabrics do.

This lack of flexibility can sometimes make these garments feel tight or restrictive, especially in areas like the bust, waist, and hips.

That’s not true, however, if a fabric such as Elastin is also listed in the product description. Elastin does have a give and makes a garment more stretchy.

Here are some other guidelines to help you decide when to size up:

1. Dresses
Bust Area: If you have a larger bust, sizing up can provide the extra room needed to avoid pulling or gaping at the buttons or seams.

Waist and Hips: For fitted styles, sizing up can ensure the dress drapes comfortably without clinging too tightly to your hips and waist.

2. Tops
Shoulder, Arms and Bust Fit:
Sizing up can help if you have broad shoulders, fuller arms or a larger bust, ensuring a comfortable and flattering fit without feeling constrained.

Length: A larger size can also offer a bit more length, which can be especially beneficial if you prefer a longer fit to cover the hips.

3. Bottoms
Waist and Hip Comfort: Non-stretch bottoms like trousers or skirts can feel restrictive at the waist and hips. Sizing up ensures you have enough room to move comfortably.

Thighs and Seat Area: If you find that bottoms are tight around your thighs or seat, a larger size can provide a more flattering and comfortable fit.

Important note: Guest Designer: Ozai N Ku and Guest Designer: Blueberry both tend to run a little smaller. If you are unsure, it’s best to select the next size up in their styles.

Reminder: Alembika styles are fluid, often designed as oversized. If you prefer a more fitted look you may want to go down a size. Please refer to size chart, fabric content and model images. When in doubt, email us at shop@alembika.com.
