Meet Navya #AlembikaWomen

Navya is an artist who models, does makeup for TV and film, and is a SAG actor. She enjoys being in nature, dream analysis, and studying the growth of the psyche. We had a heart to heart with Navya and asked her our #AlembikaWomen Five Questions.
What moment in your life made you think, “After that, life was never the same."
When I was 25 years old I had a home invasion. Sexually assaulted, beaten, strangled, and part of my face was crushed from being punched. The road to myself has been long. I have worked hard to live and to live with joy. I never knew joy until I was around 51 years old. I knew enough at 25 that my life would never be the same and it hasn’t been. If you choose to live, then you do the best you can everyday. Over time I have found a deep sense of gratitude for my life, even when things fall apart or when I get triggered. I was given the opportunity to live that night, and that is what I do now at 60, with bells on as much as possible. The fact that I can even be on camera after that really amazes me. Gratitude and kindness do not equal weakness. I am one of the strongest people I know. So many people are, we just don’t know them. Looks are deceiving, you don’t know what people have gone through and that is a good thing to remember about everyone.

What do you do when you don't know what to do?
If I am stressed out or in an anxious place, I like to take a long walk to help me get back into my body and out of my head. Some kind of exercise really helps me regain a sense of clarity and balance. I receive messages when my mind shuts off. These message are the guidance I need to move forward in the day in a better place.

What would you do if you had the whole day to yourself?
I have many days to myself as a freelance artist. Sunday is really my day. I don’t look for work, I watch the sunrise and try to do that daily if possible. I love sitting with a cup of tea watching the sun come up and savor getting another day to live. If it’s warm I have a tiny garden outside I like to hang out in, farmers markets to wander around. I love the freedom I have to not do things and I give that to myself on most Sundays.

What is the best thing about being a woman?
Since I was incarnated as a woman, I would say the best thing is the resilience we have. As I have aged I realize how wonderful it is to get older on so many levels. I feel stronger, more confident and I don’t buy into that we older women aren’t worth anything! We are amazing and I tell younger women this because I wish someone had told me that. Being a woman is the best once you embrace it.

What’s the one piece of clothing you can’t live without?
I love being that earthy Taurean woman. Jeans, Cashmere, Boots. I love color especially red. Red goes great with silver hair! Now that I am modeling again, I realize how much I love fashionable, fun clothes as well as my jeans.
